RugDoctor - Steaming Mad at Dirt
Flood Clean-Up
for carpets
Safety First
- DO NOT use the Rug Doctor machine to extract water if there is more than 1/2 inch of water over the carpet surface. Use a wet-vac, placed on a stair, or plastic stool/table so the wet-vac is well above and out of contact with water to remove all excess water. (As with any electrical appliance, submerging in water can result in serious injury or death.)
- For you safety, always wear rubber or insulated footwear when working in wet conditions.
- DO NOT handle or plug in any appliance with wet hands. Connect only to a properly grounded outlet.
- DO NOT place the Rug Doctor in standing water.
See Rug Doctor's "How To" instructions for additional information
Cleaning
- The Rug Doctor machines are excellent for removing excess water in a wet soggy carpet or for de-odorizing carpet after a flood or similar catastrophe to restore your carpet. (If carpet is flood-saturated below the backing or pad, it may be necessary to eliminate moisture by pulling up the carpet and pad to dry with fans. This may be needed to help reduce the potential for mold and mildew.)
- If carpet is wet, run the Rug Doctor machine over the carpet without any cleaning solution and WITHOUT pressing the red button on the handle. This will help remove the residual dirty water from the carpet. If the carpet is dry, go to step 4.
- Empty recovered water into sink or toilet. Continue this extraction process until no extraction is visually noticeable in the clear dome of the Rug Doctor machine.
- Clean and de-odorize carpet by filling the solution tank with Rug Doctor Oxy-Steam™ Carpet Cleaner (diluted per label instructions) AND Rug Doctor Odor Remover added at the rate of one cup (8oz.) per gallon of cleaning solution.
- Continue extracting until recovered water is relatively dirt and color free.
- Allow carpet to dry naturally. This will facilitate enzyme action for the odor removal process.
- Follow similar cleaning instructions for any flood damaged upholstery, using upholstery label instructions and the addition of Odor Remover as recommended in step 4, above.
